Final Reflection

The above applications were used to put this website together.

I was born before the ‘Digital Age’ and putting this website together has certainly given me a new perspective on learning new technologies. Confusion and anxiety were definitely feelings that I encountered, and conquered, during the process of completing this assessment. As a teacher, I will have the foresight into how the students might feel when encountering new learning experiences. During the exploration of Powtoon and Audacity, I learnt that some platforms rely on other platforms to perform certain tasks, such as, Powtoon I used Vimeo to upload and embed into WordPress and Audacity required an upload to Soundcloud before being embedded into WordPress. I included YouTube into the list of applications as I watched several tutorials on how to upload my creations.

Students, whether they are beginning their learning journey or at the end of the journey, have an expectation that the adults teaching them are knowledgeable with all facets of the classroom, this includes the technology and digital devices available – the students are being digitally expectant (Howell, 2013, pp.11,15,59).

I consider myself fluent in the programs and technology that I use on a daily basis (Howell, 2013, p.11). Although, this assessment has not made me an expert in any of the applications used, I have increased my digital fluency by learning and creating within platforms that I have previously, never encountered (Howell, 2013, p.15).

As a teacher, I will endeavour to embrace the current technologies and be fearless and creative in my attitude, as well as accepting the students as co-collaborators and not just static learners (Howell, 2013, pp.xv,9). Using ICT in classroom pedagogy is a creative way to keep students engaged and motivated in their learning, as well as equipping them with the necessary skills required to be successful at school (Howell, 2013, p.62).
